Painting!

I painted my book shelves this past weekend! Buns was gone to visit family and I had a lot of time on my hands. :) Here is the process….

First, take all the books off the bookshelf…enough said.

This was the color of the book shelves before hand. I hated them. Ugly plywood…

Lots of sanding of the plywood!DSCF2075

Not it is time to paint the primer! I used regular paint in a cream color as by primer so that I could cut the expense of the project.

Lovely!

Next came the crackle glaze. You put this stuff on in a nice even coat and then let it dry for between 1-4 hours. DSCF2080

Next, I decided on a nice dark black paint called “india ink” for the top coat. This is how it turned out…

DSCF2082

Does that look like black?….nope! It looks like blue to me….I was so upset! I wanted the black to be on the top and the cream to show through….sad day…stupid Wal-mart.…word of the wise…NEVER buy your paint from Wal-mart! NEVER!

The crackle top! At least that turned out!

Your shelves look great! I posted a link on my blog about using Elmer's glue to crackle paint, very cheap and easy!

Hahaha! Aww : ( Don't be too hard on yourself. I think they still turned out great. That kind of stuff happens to me all the time, too. Seriously! I'm glad to know I'm not the only girl havin' these problems.

I think I posted before you over at Frugal Friday. You seem like a sweety-pie. I'm glad you linked up and we could "meet". I'm a happy new follower : ).

Have a great weekend, blog-buddy!
Love,
Laura

Oh gosh, tell me about it! I often laugh about how I don't know if anyone really reads my blog, too!

What helped me find new friends/followers was linky parties and commenting, commenting, commenting. If I found a blog I really liked, or found a new sweet person, I just left them a comment telling them so. I was pleasantly surprised to see that a lot of people actually cared that I was at their blog! They came back over to say hi and followed. It was glad to see that people actually cared.

Keep at it, girly. More people will care and keep being your sweet self! : )

Love,
Laura

I just popped in from Just For Love to say hello!

Your bookcases turned out great! I hate when the color isn't what I expected...are you going to leave them as is or try another color?

Good Luck!
Cathy

That certainly does not look bad....projects like this are tough, for the first time at trying it, I think you did great!

I think the blue is a great color, but I totally get being upset when it doesn't turn out how you wanted it too especially when you work so hard at it and are SO excited to see the finished product. It's so frustrating, but I guess it's a learning experience...! For what it's worth, I think the shelves look awesome. :)

Oh I LOVE the way this turned out! I had the same problem with Wal-Mart paint. I do not get my paint from WM anymore :-)

Great job!

The shelves loog great even thought they aren't the color you thought. I've had that happen also - I rarely get the color that I visualize when I look at the little paint chip.

I think the blue looks great (although it's not black like you wanted). Can you still work the blue in your room?

Just found your blog...so cute. My husband and I named our black cat India (for India ink). One day my grandfather was visiting and said "That's a cute name, Sweetie...but India ink is actually dark blue". LOL.
